ADHD & Neurodivergence

KDW Counselling & Consulting offers ADHD and neurodivergence-informed therapy in London and virtually across Ontario. We work with the practical demands of executive functioning and the emotional consequences of being repeatedly told that more effort should solve the problem.

What This Can Feel Like

You may know exactly what needs to be done and still be unable to begin, then spend the remaining time criticizing yourself for a delay that does not make sense from the outside. Time passes unpredictably, small administrative tasks become disproportionately difficult, and the effort required to maintain ordinary systems leaves little capacity for anything else.

For many adults, the more painful part is the history around those experiences. Years of being described as careless, inconsistent, or full of unrealized potential can create a persistent expectation of failure, making feedback feel like confirmation of something fundamentally wrong rather than information about a single task.

Why Standard Advice Fails

Advice built around willpower assumes that attention, motivation, and task initiation respond reliably to importance. ADHD does not work that way, which is why planners and productivity systems often help for a short period before becoming another source of guilt.

Therapy starts with the actual conditions under which your brain can engage rather than with a demand that it function more typically. That shift creates room for external supports without treating their use as evidence of inadequacy.

How We Work

Sessions address the practical friction in your life and the emotional patterns that have developed around it. We may build systems for task initiation, transitions, or overwhelm while also working with rejection sensitivity, perfectionism, and the impulse to hide difficulty until the consequences become unmanageable.

The process is collaborative and experimental because a strategy has to fit your environment and nervous system to be useful. If it fails, we examine why rather than turning the failure into another judgment about your character.

Diagnosis and Scope

KDW does not provide formal ADHD diagnostic assessments. You can still seek therapy if ADHD is suspected or already diagnosed, and the work can proceed whether or not medication is part of your care.

When an assessment or medication discussion is needed, we will be clear about the appropriate medical or psychological referral while continuing to address the emotional and functional concerns within our scope.

Beginning Therapy

A free consultation allows you to describe where the greatest friction is occurring and ask how the clinician approaches neurodivergence. The purpose is to determine whether the work offered here matches what you are actually looking for.

Practical strategies are part of it, but we also address the shame, rejection sensitivity, and self-criticism that often cause as much distress as the symptoms.
